Today I decided to dye a few tiles to use in the coming weeks, and to try it on a few index cards as well for a upcoming “one card a day” project in the Tangle All Around Facebook group that I belong to. I thought I’d share my process in case anyone would like to give it a try.
I use the “baggie” method which I have seen posted by multiple people on Facebook, Instagram, on blogs, and in videos. I’d give credit, but I’ve no idea where it started. I do know that it is quick and easy, and you can get some great results.
Supplies:
Tiles or cards to be dyed
Water-based markers (I used both Tombow brush tip pens and Crayola Pipsqueak markers today)
Spray bottle filled with water
Plastic baggie
Paper towels

Procedure:
- Protect your workspace with paper towels so you don’t get ink all over
- Choose a few colors – I usually use 2 or 3 – that you like together
- Lay the card or tile to be dyed on the paper towels and spray it lightly with water
- Scribble with the markers onto the plastic baggie to add some color
- Press the ink covered plastic bag onto the wet paper
- Smoosh it around as much or as little as you want until you get an effect that you like
- You can use a paper towel to carefully suck up any larger puddles of ink or use an air dryer or blow dryer to dry the paper faster, but I usually just leave mine on a fresh layer of paper towel until they are dry.

TIP: I have found that if I lightly spray the back side of a tile I am going to dye first, it doesn’t curl as much and will dry much flatter
Here’s what I did today – 4 tiles and 3 index cards
